Nina Kilian Peace, received her law degree from the T.C. Williams School of Law, where she later served as an Assistant to the Dean. She was a member of the Virginia Bar Association, and practiced law in Ashland for over 30 years. Ms. Peace also served as Judge of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in Hanover and Caroline Counties. In addition to the Virginia Bar, she was a member of the Washington, D.C. Bar Association and was a past president of the Hanover Bar Association. In 1986, she was named Outstanding Attorney of Virginia by the Virginia Women's Attorneys Association and the Metropolitan Richmond Women's Bar Association. Ms. Peace was also an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Randolph Macon College. She was the first women member of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors, having served as its Chairman and Vice Chairman. Ms. Peace helped found CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), the Hanover Unit of the American Heart Association and Hanover Citizens for Sensible Growth. Ms. Peace is remembered for her leadership, her generous service to the community, and her advocacy for those in need.

This award strives to recognize local attorneys in the Hanover Bar Association who demonstrate Ms. Peace's principles of leadership and service to the community.
